Project Info
Project Description
Growing up in the Hudson Valley, Ryan would spend summers hiking and scrambling in
the Gunks. It wasn’t until 2019 while living in Austin, TX, when a friend took him
climbing for the first time. He was hooked instantly. While climbing in central Texas,
Ryan learned about the impact that local climbing organizations have on climbing
access, community engagement, and land management. After moving back to NY and
being sidelined by an injury for 2 years, Ryan began climbing in the Gunks in 2023.
In 2025, Ryan worked with the GCC as a Gunks Climbing Steward to educate climbers
in responsible and sustainable land use. As the GCC Treasurer, Ryan hopes to enable
the GCC to meet and expand its mission of long-term sustainable climbing in the
Gunks.
Outside of climbing, Ryan is a theoretical chemist and regularly volunteers in STEM
outreach programs. Ryan enjoys all things outdoors, repairing old instruments, and
spending time with his cats.
