Action Alert: Open Climbing in New York State Parks

Calling all Gunks lovers! We continue our campaign to get the state of New York to develop a Climbing Management Plan for Minnewaska State Park and other areas with climbing potential in the state of New York. Despite stating that they would in 2010, and despite continuous urging over the last five years by the Gunks Climbers Coalition, Access Fund, and others, virtually nothing has been done to fulfill New York State Parks commitment, and climbing remains closed.

This campaign began with requesting that climbers write hand-written letters to the New York State Parks commissioner. Hand-written letters need to be opened one at a time and cannot be ignored. The impact of all of these letters arriving by mail from the climbing community cannot be underestimated. The next phase is to use the Access Fund’s Action Alert to send letters online.

Your voice is needed! Please use the Access Fund letter writing tool below to let the New York Office of Parks know that such inaction is unacceptable and that it’s time to develop a formal climbing management plan without further delay. A sample letter is included or you can write your own using bullet points provided.
