May 6, 2018 – GCC Adopt-A-Crag Day

Keep the weekend of May 5-6 open! Not only will we have our GCC Spring BBQ on Saturday, but Sunday will be our annual Adopt-a-Crag day, where the Gunks community can participate in a volunteer land stewardship project co-sponsored by the Access Fund.

Trail work at Adopt-A-Crag day, 4/22/2012 in Lost City.

Lost City Adopt-a-Crag

This year’s Adopt-a-Crag project will consist of trail maintenance at Lost City. Here’s a good opportunity to help out, plus, if you’re new to Lost City, get more acquainted with this stellar unpublished crag.

The day will start out with volunteers meeting at 9:00am at the Coxing parking lot on Clove Road (where the Split Rock swimming hole is). Please carpool, parking is very limited! First, we enjoy coffee and donuts provided by the Mohonk Preserve and work out the logistics. Then we hike about 15 minutes to the crag (further depending on the work sites) to get to work. Because there is a hike to the crag, please arrive on time or you’ll be left behind! We expect work to be done by around 1:00 pm, when everyone can enjoy climbing, scrambling or hiking at Lost City. Volunteers will get to stay for free afterwards, no need to buy a day pass if you’re not a member.

In case of really bad weather, we may reschedule, so please register & leave your email address.

What to Bring

While the Mohonk Preserve will have some tools on hand, since we don’t know exactly how many people will show, bring your own shovels, pick axes and rakes if you can (maybe a good idea to put your name on them), as well as work gloves, lunch, water, and climbing gear for afterwards.

The event is over, thanks for coming!

We hope you can join us and give back to the crag we love so dearly!
