Bonticou Crag Sunbowl Closure for Peregrine Falcons

(Update June 18, 2018 – the closure has been lifted for the Bonticou Crag Sunbowl area ONLY)

As of February 23, 2018, the Mohonk Preserve has informed us that there will be a temporary rock climbing closure of the section of Bonticou Crag known as The Sunbowl, due to nesting peregrine falcons. To comply with their instructions so the birds are not disturbed:

  • Do not use ascent trails or rappel routes that access this area.
  • Do not use the trails at the top of the cliff in the closure area.
  • Do not use the climber’s trail at the base of the cliff.
  • Please refrain from excessive noise making while in the vicinity of this
    closure

We appreciate your cooperation.
