Update: As of August 3, 2023, the Peregrine Falcon Trapps closure has been lifted.
The Mohonk Preserve has confirmed that there is Peregrine Falcon nesting activity in the Trapps. They have notified us that they are revising the temporary climbing and bouldering closures as follows effective Saturday, April 1, 2023.
Here are the details:
- Trapps Climbing – No climbing between and including Forty Eight (5.4) to and including Pressure Drop (5.12.b).
- Trapps Bouldering – No bouldering in the Boxcar area. Exception: Problems starting on or below Undercliff Carriage Road will remain open for small, quiet groups of 10 or fewer.
We will continue to post updates on the peregrines’ progress on our website at Peregrine Watch.
The closure area is at the northern (climber’s right) side of the Trapps and includes climbs such as Double Crack (5.8), Bold-ville (5.8), the seasons area (Winter, The Fall, Spring), Kligfield’s Follies (5.11d), Simple Suff (5.10a/b), and Falled on Account of Strain (5.10b).
