On April 26, 2008, the Gunks Climbers' Coalition coordinated a cleanup of Route 44/55 from the deli to the Visitor's Center as part of a Gardiner town-wide road cleanup effort. Two teams of volunteers covered each side of the highway and collected over 6 bags of trash.
