Act Responsibly, Remind Others
You can help keep the MUA campground open by reminding folks at
the campground that we need to follow some simple suggestions,
or we may lose the site.
- Keep a clean campsite and remove your trash from the property.
- Use the available portable toilets
- Respect the neighbors
- Do not block private driveways
- Use the available parking within the campground or park within the
white lines and shoulder when parking (and packing) on Rt. 299
- Avoid creating bottle-necks along the road, especially when packing
and unpacking vehicles
- Camp only in legal sites designated by a yellow tent marker: you may be
ticketed for camping in an undesignated site (see map below for legal sites).
- Please do what you can to keep the noise level low after 9 PM.
Work Days
July 31, 2004 - MUA Work Day
We had a successful Work Day on July 31st at the DEC Multiple Use Area.
Work was done to maintain existing firepits and firepits on illegal sites
were eliminated. An erosion mitigation project was started.
The GCC also placed new maps which member France Menk had designed to be
larger and more visible and easier to read.

day's activities,

April 17, 2004 - First MUA Work Day
Eleven GCC members and volunteers sacrificed half a perfect climbing day
to assist with a clean-up of the Shawangunk Multiple
Use campground on Rt. 299 in Gardiner. The crew scoured the grounds for
glass and garbage, shoveled out knee-deep ash from fire rings, and
rebuilt campfire pits on the 58-acre site.

Map of the Open Campsites
Please make sure the campsite you choose is not one of the closed
ones. Here is a copy (in PDF format) of the new campsite maps that the
GCC posted at the MUA site as of July 31, 2004.
Thank you for your help!
